42 new Covid-19 cases and 1 death recorded, 33 in hospital, 2 are in ITU

42 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,264 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.29%.
Authorities said that during the last 24 hours, an 85-year old woman has passed away while Covid-19 positive.
A total of 33 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, down from 36 yesterday. 2 of whom are in the ITU, down from 3 yesterday.
There have been 59 recoveries overnight, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo down to 669.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 35,950 and there have been 34,447 recoveries and 438 deaths.
1,174,898 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.
The number of vaccines administered is now at 793,015 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has reached 410,532.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 26th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 35,831 and the number of deaths showing is 436. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is 180.54.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
