Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne announces a new investment in Mater Dei’s Pathology laboratory

Health Minister Chris Fearne during a visit to Mater Dei Hospital on Friday, referred to the increase in Covid-19 cases being experienced by several European countries, and called for caution in our country so that cases do not increase in Malta.

He stated that as the situation in Malta and Mater Dei Hospital is ”still stable, unlike overseas countries, the restrictive measures will not be increased and only those existing measures will be maintained.”

The Health Minister added that the high rate of vaccination, as well as the booster jab, is a key reason for the stability in the number of cases in our country. He added that the booster dose will be gradually given to all ages.

Dr Fearne said that three quarters of people over the age of 70 had already been vaccinated with the booster and appealed to people in this group who had not yet received an invitation letter to call 145.

He also announced that from the 8th November, both health and education staff will start receiving the booster vaccine. While from the first week of December people over the age of 60 will also start receiving invitations.
