Five student councils have won the Gold Award, five the Silver Award and another six the Bronze Award in the second edition of the Student Councils Democracy Awards.

16 secondary schools and post-secondary institutions participated in this edition with the participation of 200 young men and women.

The five student councils that won the Gold Award are Santa Giovanna Antide College, Immaculate Conception Secondary School; Santa Monica School; St. George Preca Middle School, Blata l-Bajda; St. Ignatius College Middle School, Tal-Handaq; and the Sixth Form of St. Aloysius College.

The five councils that won the Silver Prize are the Sacred Heart of Jesus Minor Seminary, Victoria, Gozo; St. Edward’s College; the Sixth Form of De La Salle College; the Maltese College of Arts, Science and Technology – MCAST; and Youth.Inc – Agenzija Zghazagh.

The six Bronze Prize winners are the Archbishop’s Minor Seminary, Rabat; the Bishop’s Conservatory Secondary School in Victoria, Gozo; St. Anton’s School, Mgarr; Malta Visual and Performing Arts School Hamrun; St. Nicholas College Middle School, Rabat; and Sixth Form Sir M.A. Refalo.

The Student Councils Democracy Awards consist of the implementation of action plans throughout the academic year by the participating schools and institutions. They are given €150 and €300 respectively as an incentive to participate, while a toolkit has been created to guide them in the process, youth workers support student councils and school coordinators.

The awards ceremony was presented by the Minister for Inclusion and Quality of Life Julia Farrugia Portelli, whose Ministry also includes the youth sector, and by the Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Recreation and Voluntary Organisations Clifton Grima.
