The Don Bosco Grand Concert 2022 takes place this month with the Gozo Youth Wind Band, which this year is also celebrating the 20th anniversary since its inception.

The repertoire for the evening will include new arrangements in the local musical scene, as well as a variety of known pieces which will appeal to both young and old. The concert will come to an end with the Don Bosco Hymn.

The Don Bosco Grand Concert will be held Sunday, the 30th of January, at 6.15pm at the Oratory Don Bosco Theatre, Victoria, Gozo.

The Gozo Youth Wind Band will be under the direction of Founder and Music Director Mro Dr. Joseph Grech. Entrance is Free but limited spaces are available due to current Covid-19 restrictions.

Patrons are expected to follow all protocols in force and need to be fully vaccinated and book in advance on a first-come-first-served basis.

As in the case of The Youth Orchestra, The Gozo Youth Wind Band consists mainly of 50 Gozitan Youths who after having pursued their musical studies both in Gozo and Malta on an individual basis, meet regularly to prepare for performances that will take place throughout the year.

This year the Gozo Youth Wind Band & Orchestra is celebrating the 20th Anniversary since the inception of these two ensembles, namely, The Gozo Youth Orchestra and the Gozo Youth Wind Band with a series of events and initiatives one of which is the establishment of the Gozo Junior Orchestra and the Gozo Junior Wind Band.

The Gozo Youth Orchestra will be presenting “From the Beatles to U2” on March 5th, at MCC Theatre, Valletta-Malta, the 14th Edition of- Opera vs Pop Under the Stars, Monday 1st August ,the 7th Edition of Stage and Proms on the Sea, Monday 12th September, On Friday 28th October, the Gozo Youth Orchestra will team up with The Helping Hands Group who in turn is celebrating its 25th Anniversary since its inception, with a Gala Concert titled A Night with Andrew Lloyd Webber with special arrangement with the Really Useful Group of London, and a new rock-orchestral concert on the 19th November, titled Rock Classics of the the 60’s & 70’s, both at the Aurora Theatre, as well as the 3rd Edition of Christmas Rocks the Astra in December at Astra Theatre.

Don Bosco Grand Concert 2022 and other events were made possible through The Ministry for Gozo, Cultural Heritage Directorate within the Gozo Ministry, Arts Council Malta through the Cultural Programme Support Fund, Festivals Malta and MTA.
