To celebrate the 9th anniversary since its opening, Il-Hagar museum in Victoria has prepared a range of events

On Friday, the 18th of February at 7pm, Professor Ivan Callus delivers the Fourth Joseph Vella Lecture on the anniversary of his sudden demise in 2018.

This will be followed by the opening of a documentary exhibition “The Vocal Music of Joseph Vella” in Video Room 2. The next day, a commemoratory concert will be offered at 8pm in Aula Mons Farrugia at the back of St George’s Basilica.

Those interested are encouraged to book through events@heartofgozo.org.mt. There is no charge but current restrictions limit availability.

Then on Saturday, the 19th aficionados are invited to a Meet the Artist session at 11am. This will include the launch of Il-Hagar GEMS 16, full-colour catalogue of the In Dialogue exhibition set up on all levels of this cultural centre by Victor Agius till the 8th of March.

Other sessions take place on Friday, the 11th (6-8pm) and Sunday, the 13th (10am till noon). Presently the Gozo Philatelic Society is showing too a range of Malta stamps with a prehistoric theme.

The programme concludes on Sunday, the 20th, when the Laudate Pueri choir sings during 11am Mass at St George’s Basilica in suffrage of the souls of Maestro Vella and the other benefactors. Luncheon at Ta’ Frenc follows at 12.30pm, with detailed menu shown on www.facebook.com/heartofgozo.

Il-Hagar also hosts the Joseph Vella Archive on level 3, which can be visited during the normal times of 9am to 5pm seven days a week.

The museum said that the “support of so many volunteers and institutions such as the Malta Tourism Authority and the Gozo Ministry’s Cultural Directorate should again be acknowledged.’
