There were an estimated 59,928 inbound visitors to the Maltese Islands during January, while total nights spent amounted to 576,536, the National Statistics Office said today.

51,640 of these inbound tourists visited Malta on holiday, followed by 4,243 tourists who came on business.

The NSO noted that Polish and Italian residents made up 23.1% of total inbound tourists.

The largest share of guest nights (78.0%) was spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 9.7 nights.

In January, the NSO said that total tourist expenditure reached almost €47.0 million. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €81.4.
