The Victoria Local Council said that it has just successfully completed a project in the very heart of the Gozitan Capital, with the replacement of 100 old lanterns located in the historic part of the city of Victoria.

The old lanterns had originally been installed by the very first Local Council way back in the nineties.

In a statement, the Council said that due to their age, it was deemed necessary for the lanterns to be replaced as they were in fact outdated, frequently prone to damage and also very inefficient.

Following a public call for tenders, and on the advice of technical experts, the Council said that it selected the “most suitable streetlights for these particular streets.”

The Local Council managed to acquire funds for this project under the Development Planning Fund within the Planning Authority.

The allocated fund totalled €194,000 meaning that, the Local Council was able to replace approximately 100 lanterns located in the streets of the historic centre and in St. George’s Square.

The Victoria Local Council concluded by saying that it will “effectively benefit from the maximum funding available as this project had also been endorsed by the Gozo Regional Council.”
