Comino: Government continues to ignore Opposition, civil society and citizens - PLRebekah Cilia, the Opposition Spokesperson for Lands and Consumer Rights, has said that regarding Comino, the Government “continues to ignore Opposition, civil society and citizens.”

In a statement on Thursday, she said that “the Labour Government is refusing to answer all questions related to the situation in Comino.”

“A number of Parliamentary Questions were asked to Minister Silvio Schembri and Minister Clayton Bartolo regarding beach concessions, contracts, licenses or permits related to the rental of deckchairs and umbrellas in Comino but the same answer was always given – an answer will be given in another session,” said Cilia

She went on to say that “a verbal parliamentary question was also asked to Minister Clayton Bartolo, to which he replied that he had about 20 PQs on the subject, these are the same PQs that remained unanswered.”

Rebekah Cilia insisted that the same PQs were asked for all the beaches in the Maltese islands but the answer was the same – “The information will be given in another session.”

Parliament has now adjourned for the summer holidays and the questions are still unanswered, she said.

Ms Cilia said that today, we also heard the news that the Moviment Graffitti has sent a second letter to a number of Ministers regarding the situation in Comino, and they have yet to receive an answer to their first letter.

She concluded by saying that “the Labour Government needs to immediately stop ignoring and being arrogant towards the Opposition, the Civil Society and the citizens in general. Action must be taken to remedy the situation on Comino.”
