Archbishop Charles Scicluna in his homily during a commemorative Mass for the Queen on Thursday, referred to Queen Elizabeth II as a “faithful disciple of the Lord.”
The Archbishop went on to say that, a few days before her coronation in 1953 the Queen asked the citizens of the United Kingdom and all the citizens of the countries of the Commonwealth, regardless of their beliefs, they remember her in their prayers so that the Lord gives her the wisdom and strength to be able to serve God and the people faithfully during all the days of her life.
“Today we are not only praying for her soul as a baptised Christian like us, but we also recognise that she was a witness of loyalty and faithfulness and will remain engraved in our hearts as a beautiful example of how to be a leader without pomp but by example,” said the Archbishop.
The Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, was held at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.
The congregation was led by the President Dr George Vella. The British High Commissioner to Malta, Katherine Ward, also attended.
