There was a 15% increase in building permits for new dwellings in Gozo during the third quarter with 445 dwellings compared to the same period last year, the National Statistics Office said today.

The number of new dwellings approved by locality was highest in Sannat with 88, in fact it was the third highest out of all localities in Malta and Gozo.

Following on from Sannat, came Qala with 66, Xaghra with 65, Ghajnsielem with 41, Xewkija with 40, then Nadur and Gharb both with 35 and Victoria with 26.

These figures are quoted from the top 35 localities across the islands. qormi had the highest number of approved new dwellings with 198.

In Malta approved permits during the same period were down by 7.3%, at 1,647.

On a national basis, apartments made up 71.1% of the total number of approved new dwellings with 1,488, followed by penthouses 348, maisonettes 177, terraced houses 58 and other residential units 21 (other dwellings type includes bungalows, farmhouses and villas).
