“In order to improve the reverse vending machine system, local councils should be included in its management,” said the Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna.

In a statement on Thursday, Zminijietna said that a better managing of the BCRS system will translate in a clean locality. “In the case of those who find it difficult to access the bottle refund scheme, the local councils can assist these people.”

Zminijietna added that “the local councils should be financially rewarded by BCRS to make good for the public spaces taken to operate such system. As well, as to keep the surrounding area around the machine clean from rubbish.”

Zminijietna also noted “that most of the ‘bring-in-sites’ around Malta are being used as dumping sites. The local councils should make sure that these areas are kept clean, while WasteServ assists them financially for the service.”
