Starting on the 2nd of January 2023, there will be a new national schedule on the collection of domestic waste.

The management of the collection and transport of domestic waste will be done on a Regional basis, as determined in the National Waste Management Plan.

In a joint statement, the Ministry for Local Government, the Ministry for Environment and the Parliamentary Secretariat for the Environment said that in order to remove the existing anomaly regarding the bag collection schedules, the days and which bags are to be collected will be the same for all of Malta and Gozo.

Therefore, the new schedule of days and the bags to be collected is as follows:

Monday – Organic waste only (white bag)

Tuesday – Mixed waste (black bag)

Wednesday – Organic waste only (white bag)

Thursday – Recycled Waste (grey or green bag)

Friday – Organic waste only (white bag)

Saturday – Mixed Waste (black bag)

The collection of glass bottles will be done every first Friday of the month, and the third Friday of the month.

More information about the time of discharge and collection of waste is given to residents by the respective Local Councils and Regions.

An information campaign will also get underway on the various media on this subject. If more help is needed, please phone 2090 8600 or see www.wastecollection.mt
