Mr Justice Francesco Depasquale has today annulled the validity of the Vitals Global Healthcare contract. The three hospitals, including the Gozo General Hospital, will now be returned to the Government.

In his decision Mr Justice Francesco Depasquale stated that the Government “had a duty and obligation to make a rescission of all the contracts.”

The other two hospital are Saint Luke’s Hospital, and the Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital.

Government Statement

In response, the Government in a statement referred to the judgement of the Civil Court regarding the hospital concession.

The Government stated that it is “analysing this sentence, and in any eventuality it will ensure that it protects the national interest, the jobs of all employees, and all the services that patients receive from hospitals, which are a merit of the concession about which the judgement was given.”

ADPD statement

Following today’s court judgement regarding the Vitals’ deal passed on to Steward for the running of three hospitals, ADPD-The Green Party Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo said that, “it is now crystal clear that the contract was fraudulent.”

In the light of this judgement ADPD-The Green Party is calling for an urgent public enquiry on all contracts awarded by the Government led by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

ADPD has also requested the Commissioner of Police “to investigate Joseph Muscat, Konrad Mizzi and Chris Cardona for fraud/corruption without delay,” concluded Cacopardo.
