On Monday of Holy Week, the Chaplains of the General Hospital of Gozo organised a Mass led by the Bishop of Gozo Mgr Anton Teuma, for the patients and the sick in the male and female wards.
In his thought about the Gospel of Mary of Bethany who washed the feet of Jesus in the house of her brother Lazarus (Jn 12:1-11), the Bishop invited those present to connect their suffering with that of Christ who died for us, and thus sickness becomes an experience to grow in the love of God.
Like Lazarus and his sisters Martha and Mary, the mission of evangelisation also continues through the experience of those who are suffering or have lost someone dear, the Bishop said.
The Gozo Diocese said that the Bishop then took the opportunity to thank the staff, doctors and nurses for their dedication to the sick.
Bishop Teuma visited the patients one by one in the male and female wards, giving them his blessing and promised to keep them in his prayers.
