The Malta Railway 1883-1931 – The Maltese train, known as “Il-vapur tal-art,” was in service for 48 years, between 1883 and 1931.

To commemorate this important part of our heritage, MaltaPost will be issuing a sheet of 5 stamps portraying various visuals related to the Malta Railway.

One stamp shows the railway route, with three others portraying artworks, by John N. Scerri, of scenes from the Birkirkara, Hamrun and Mtarfa train stations respectively.

The stamps will be issued in a sheet of 5, with each stamp measuring 76mm x 20mm, a comb perforation 13.7 x 14.0 and bearing the Maltese Cross watermark. The sheets measure 108.1mm x 132.3mm and were produced by Printex Ltd in the offset process.

The issue consists of 12,000 sheets of the €1.50 stamp. These stamps will be available from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo from Tuesday, the 25th of April.
