By the time the new school year starts at the end of September, the first part of the project on the building of the new boys’ secondary school in Victoria, is expected to be finished. This means that students who will be attending the Ninu Cremona Lyceum Complex within the Gozo College in the next school year, will be able to make use of new laboratories and classrooms that are within the new block that have been built during the first phase of this ambitious project.

During the 2008/2009 school year a number of new laboratories and workshops on the ground floor were already being used, this year the new facilities for use will include three food laboratories, three art rooms as well as classrooms, along with nine science laboratories which will be used for the teaching of Integrated Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo together with Dolores Cristina, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports made a visit to the school where they were accompanied by the architects in charge of the construction, as well as the Head of School Dr Frank Abela.

The new secondary school for boys in Gozo will have the structure and the necessary facilities to meet modern educational needs. This will mean more accessibility and a better environment that offers more security, as well as a means of modern teaching that offers better opportunities for Gozitan students. This ambitious infrastructure project will involve an investment of €7 million and is co-ordinated by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport in collaboration with Ministry for Gozo.

The construction of the school will be spread over 3300 square meters of land and will incorporate 45 classrooms, 9 science and technology laboratories, 6 workshops, 4 laboratories for teaching computer studies, a library, art workshop, Home Economics and Needlework rooms, with administration and other facilities that could be used for the service of students like career guidance etc.

The new school will provide open spaces and sports facilities that can be used both during school activities and for outside use. The project also provides for the construction of underground parking as well as building a road connecting Europe Street with Triq Fortunato Mizzi. It will also have a security-related transport service for the Students who use public transport organised by the villages.
