A new electric van has been inaugurated by the Fontana Local Council that will enable it to offer transport services to elderly persons and other residents in the locality that may need such services.
Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli and Can. Simon M. Cachia, Parish Priest of Fontana, were also present for the occasion.
Fontana Mayor Saviour Borg said that this van, which has a carrying capacity of nine persons, cost around €50,000, half of which was paid from Council funds and the other half funded from the Accessibility and Mobility scheme.
This scheme was launched by the Directorate for Local Government, Strategy and Implementation of Policy within the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government.
Mayor, Saviour Borg, explained how the implementation of this project had been hindered by technical and logistical issues among which, were those created by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The Council said that it has “succeeded yet again to implement another initiative that conforms with good environmental practices whilst giving added and better services to Fontana residents.”
