Cinemas in Malta and Gozo last year projected 376 different film titles and registered a total of 460,244 admissions, the National Statistics Office said today.

There were six cinema establishments, of which 2 were in Gozo, with 23 screens in total. Gross box office receipts amounted to €3,385,111.

The NSO noted that the most popular film titles were ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru,’ ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Jurassic World: Dominion,’ amounting to 7.1%, 6.1% and 5.9% of total admissions respectively.

Maltese productions, many of which belonged to the short films rather than the feature films category, had 15,159 admissions with a total gross box office of €85,478,the NSO said.

In terms of running time, the majority of the films, 52.9% of the total, were between 76 to 120 minutes long.

‘Live/Encore’ type of screenings, including operas, ballets, and theatre, had the longest running time of all genres shown in cinemas.
