Din l-Art Helwa has said that ”it is with great regret that we announce that lighting up of the towers and fortifications around Malta and Gozo planned for this evening has had to be cancelled due to the high winds.”
DLH expressed its thanks for ”all the support we received in getting to this point but safety always comes first.”
Din l-Art Helwa had teamed up with Heritage Malta, various local councils, and Scout groups to light up 20 locations to mark the feast of St John the Baptist, which over the centuries has been marked by fireworks and bonfires – St John’s Fires – which were meant to ward off witches and evil spirits.
