The village of Gharb broke two national records in one day yesterday, as Malta Records confirmed that the newly erected flagpole in the village is now recorded as the tallest on the Maltese Islands, measuring a height of 51 metres.

The second broken record was that of the largest festa flag, which Malta Records recorded having a length of 29.35 metres and a width of 10 metres.

The Malta Records expressed its thanks to the mayor of Gharb, David Apap Agius, and the Armar Association that organises the feast of the Visitation of Our Lady to Saint Elizabeth, “for the trust they have shown in us.”

This weekend Gharb celebrates its feast. There are both internal and external festivities, including processions, band marches and fireworks, which culminate on the feast day itself.

The beautiful and colourful Infiorata cultural event will be presented on the feast day, which this year falls on – Sunday, the 2nd of July.

This event is the initiative of the Gharb Local Council in collaboration with Assocjazzjoni Maltija EspressjonArti Gharb, the Ministry for Gozo, the Parish and Gharb Feast Committee,.

This 21st edition of the Infiorata will be laid on the church parvis, Visitation Square, starting from 1.30pm.

The Visitation statue procession, then leaves the church at 7.30pm, and passes over the Infiorata – Carpet of flowers.
