There were 53 people registering for work in Gozo during May, this was down from 80 in the same month last year and up from 51 in April, according to the latest data issued by the National Statistics Office today.

Of the 53 seeking employment, there were 35 males and 18 females. Last year the breakdown was 46 males and 34 females.

The highest age group seeking employment in Gozo were those aged 45 and over, with 20 looking for work – 10 males and 10 females. This was followed by the 30-44 age group, with 17 looking for work – 11 males and 6 females.

On a national level, the NSO noted that the number of registered unemployed in May 2023 decreased by 45 persons over last year.

The number of registered persons with a disability decreased by 18 persons over the same period in last year.

Decreases in the registered unemployment levels were recorded in the majority of age groups, excluding the under 20s.

The NSO also noted that clerical support jobs were the most common occupations sought by the registered unemployed.
