Almost 285,000 tourists arrived on the Maltese Islands in MayThere were an estimated 284,944 inbound tourists visiting the Maltese Islands during May, this was an increase from 221,164 in the corresponding month of 2022, the National Statistics Office said today.

The NSO noted that total nights spent amounted to 1,678,200, and total expenditure surpassed €237.8 million.

Italian, UK, and French residents made up 47.1% of total inbound tourists.

The largest share of guest nights (86.8%) was spent in rented accommodation establishments.

Inbound tourists in the first five months of 2023 amounted to 994,804, while total nights spent almost reached 6.2 million nights.

Total tourism expenditure for the period January-May 2023 was estimated at €750.3 million, while expenditure per capita stood at €754, the NSO said.
