Day Respite service for elderly affected by blackouts, including GozoThe Ministry for Active Ageing will immediately offer a temporary Day Respite Service to the elderly aged over 65 affected by the electricity blackouts.

This daytime service will be provided Dar Padova, Gozo and in the San Vincenz De Paul residence and all homes for the elderly.

In Gozo on Saturday, according to the Enemalta website, areas affected by loss of power are: Nadur, Xaghra and Zebbug including Marsalforn.

This follows what the Ministry said is a “situation of the unprecedented heat that hit Europe and the temporary interruptions in the supply of electricity due to related faults.”

“Discussions were held between the Minister for Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela and the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli, with the aim of offering shelter to the elderly who are affected by blackouts,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry for Active Ageing said it will do everything to ensure that the elderly are offered a service close to their location. Transportation will also be offered.
