Enemalta said that it has repaired 45 out of 64 high voltage network faults as repairs continued on Monday morning.

According to the latest Enemalta map which shows planned and unplanned outages, there are no localities without power, the same for the live feed on the home page of the Enemalta website, however on Monday many residents in areas across Malta are saying they are still with no electricity.

Enemalta on Sunday assured its customers that it had “restored electricity supply to all customers in Gozo and Malta affected by the high voltage cable faults.”On Sunday night, Enemalta said that its engineers and technicians were dispatched to another five high voltage network difficulties registered during the same night, to restore electricity supply to the affected customers and launch required repairs.

Enemalta said that of these outages, the impacted areas were re-energised through alternative cable connections in less than three hours.

In parts of Dingli, the electricity supply could not be restored before the required repairs were completed during the same night. Enemalta added that in parts of Zejtun, electricity supply was restored through a standby power generating system.

Another localised area in this locality will be reconnected to the grid as soon as ongoing repairs are completed, it said.

During one of Sunday night’s faults, a cable termination fault in a substation let out some smoke. The cable’s protection systems immediately isolated the faulty section of the cable, to avoid further damage to the substation. No other equipment besides the cable termination was damaged during this incident.

Enemalta said that its engineers arrived on site within 15 minutes of the incident, along with Civil Protection Department firefighters.

As soon as the fault was identified, substations connected to the same circuit which could be safely re-energised, were switched on again. “Meanwhile, repairs of the faulty termination were launched immediately, and electricity supply to the remaining areas was restored during the same night,” Enemalta said.

It added that “other technicians are working to help customers affected by other network difficulties in the low voltage system, the network distributing electricity from substations to customers’ properties. Such faults may affect individual customers or very small areas, such as part of a street.”
