Melita have announced that they have once again secured TV broadcast rights to provide live and exclusive TV coverage of the traditional 8th of September Victory Day Regatta, closely following all the action in minute detail. This was announced during a press conference addressed by Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sports Clyde Puli and Mr. Malcolm Briffa, Melita’s Head of Marketing.

Melita has positioned itself as the leader in both local and international live sports coverage, and this continued collaboration with the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts as well as the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport is another clear sign of Melita’s strong commitment towards promoting and supporting local sports. This will be the fifth time running that Melita television subscribers are given the opportunity of following the bi-annual regatta from the comfort of their homes. The regatta will be broadcast both on Melita Sports and also on Melita’s Weather and Information channel, which is available to all Melita subscribers.

This year, the event is expected to be an exciting and eagerly fought one, with all the major clubs – Cospicua, Vittoriosa, Kalkara, Marsamxett Valletta, Marsa, Senglea and Birzebbuga – doing their best to take the victory shield home. The clubs will compete in 10 races, 5 reserves and 5 open categories. “The 8th September Regatta is firmly entrenched in the Maltese calendar and hundreds of rowing enthusiasts and Maltese families eagerly look forward to this event. This year live transmissions will kick off at 1:30pm on Melita Sports,” said Mr Malcolm Briffa, Melita’s Head of Marketing.

Sports journalist Sandro Micallef will give a live and detailed commentary throughout the races, which will be filmed using a 10-camera setup to ensure that fans do not miss any of the action or the most important moments. Transmission will also include the prize giving ceremony and exclusive interviews with rowers, judges and club representatives.

“This exclusive agreement follows an action-packed summer, including live transmissions of the local waterpolo league together with myriad matches from the top Maltese football championships, including Malta’s World Cup qualifier against Sweden. Melita is committed to promote and support local sports of all kinds, not just football. Our record in promoting local sports remains unbeatable and includes an impressive list of other local sports already broadcast on Melita Sports, including national and club championships, Rugby matches, Gozo 1st Division Football and 1st Division Handball,” said Mr. Briffa.

This season, Melita Sports is delivering over 1,000 LIVE football matches from the major top-flight European domestic and international leagues including the Barclays Premier League, Italian Serie A, Spanish Primera Liga, Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League as well as selected matches from Malta’s BOV Premier League.

The company concluded by saying that all new Melita Sports subscribers on a one-year subscription can now save €45: pay €230 in advance (equivalent to 10 monthly subscription fees) and receive 2 free months of Melita Sports equivalent to €45.
