The Nationalist Party is insisting on an appropriate plan for Gozo and the Gozitans.
It said that the calls of Gozitans remained unheeded even after months of waiting for immediate changes to meet the needs of the island.
In a meeting between Ghal Ghawdex the Forum for Gozo and the Nationalist Party, the current challenges that Gozo is facing were discussed, with the Forum reiterating that the environmental situation in Gozo is in a “state of crisis,” with the negative and inevitable consequences brought about by overdevelopment affecting the economy, tourism and business.
The Forum claimed that real and positive change can only be achieved if urgent, robust and tangible decisions are taken and implemented when it comes to planning policy and the current economic model.
Leader of the Nationalist Party Bernard Grech, stressed that the Nationalist Party, “as it has always done, will continue to see that there is an adequate plan for the island of Gozo.”
Grech insisted that it is very important to save the quality of life of every Maltese and Gozitan. “This is especially so when we see that the damage is not only done to the environment, but also to the economy among others.”
The Ghal Ghawdex Forum is comprised of ENGOs Din L-Art Helwa Ghawdex, Ghawdix and Wirt Ghawdex representing the voice of the environment and heritage lobby in Gozo, the Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Tourism Association representing the voice of Gozitan business and tourism, the Gozo Regional Council representing all 14 local councils and all communities of Gozo, and the Gozo University Group representing the youth and future of Gozo.
The Leader of the Nationalist Party was accompanied by Spokesperson for Tourism Mario de Marco, Spokesperson for the Environment Janice Chetcuti, Spokesperson for Gozo Alex Borg, Spokesperson for Planning Stanley Zammit and Spokesperson for Finance Jerome Caruana Cilia.
