This is Em, she is a juvenile three-flippered loggerhead turtle, that arrived at the Nature Trust Malta rehab centre in June 2021 and is now ready to be released back to the sea.

Em was found to have an ingested hook stuck in the intestines and a badly entangled front flipper.

NTM explained that due to the cuts the flipper sustained by the entangled debris, infections took over and unfortunately the flipper had to be amputated by the vet.

Following months of medication, treatment, therapy and training by the NTM rehab volunteers, Em is now ready to be released back to the sea.

NTM said it endeavours to satellite track every amputated turtle in order to monitor its progress during the first months, “Em now needs your help so we may collect the € 5000 required to purchase a tracker.”
