The owners of two dogs who are claiming that whilst under the care of the same pet sitter in Gozo one of the pets went missing and the other was found dead, have now set up a joint crowdfunding campaign to cover the cost of any legal action against the pet sitter.

Kim, a German Shepherd dog, was reported missing from Gharb and last seen on the 25th of August, he was found dead along cliffs at Gharb some two days later. Kim’s owners are Edward and Diane Axisa.

Ruby, a black female Staffie, has been missing since the 15th of July with no positive sightings. Her owners Emily Biesmans and Amir Chalably have been searching ever since and have offered a 5,000 euro reward for her safe return.

Both sets of owners said, “for Kim, Ruby and all the future victims of unregulated pet boarding services, we must stand together. Their suffering should not be in vain. We implore the public to join us in seeking justice at a legal level, to hold those responsible, accountable for their negligence.”

They called on the government “to enact and enforce regulations that ensure those entrusted with our furry family members are properly trained and competent, preventing unqualified individuals from profiting at the expense of innocent lives.”

They said that “the funds collected will be used to fight the ongoing legal battle against the pet sitter in question, to spread awareness about the need for legal change, and to support animal welfare organisations, SPCA, animal sanctuaries, and rehoming programmes.”

They stressed that, “every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in our mission to bring justice to Ruby, Kim, and countless other animals.”
