The Environment and Resources Authority RHIB patrols continue around the coastline collecting litter that is being irresponsibly dumped at sea.

During the frequent RHIB (Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat) patrols the ERA enforcement and compliance officers said that they are sadly still encountering lots of litter.

On a recent patrol they even stumbled upon a container full of oil. The ERA stressed that “the sea is not a dumping ground and we all have a part to play in keeping it clean and safe.”

The ERA encouraged the public to also do their part to help – picking up litter from next to the sea or when out at sea can provide various benefits:

1) Cleaner Sea for All

2) Safeguarding Marine Life: “Every piece of rubbish collected is a lifeline for marine species like turtles. Cleaning up helps protect their habitats and ensures they can thrive without harm from marine litter,” the ERA said.

3) Reducing Microplastics

4) Avoiding Vessel Damage: Marine litter can cause serious damage to boats and ships. By clearing it from our waters, we’re enhancing safety for maritime vessels and crews.

The Authority emphasised that “our actions on land can have tremendous effects on our seas.”

The ERA is appealing for the public to “join forces for a cleaner, safer sea that benefits us all.”
