New Gozo dentistry clinic for teaching and the community

A new dentistry clinic in Ghajnsielem, Gozo, which offers teaching to university students and services to the community has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Robert Abela.

He said that this top level equipment is improving the educational experience for the students of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Malta, while the community is enjoying high level services, many of which will be free of charge.

Abela pointed out how this project “reflects the principles that are guiding the Government, in every decision it takes. This is because, with a strong economy, we are carrying out top-level projects like these, which are an investment in the educational experience of our university students, that in turn will benefit the community.

“Gozo is today an island of opportunities – with the vision we are implementing for the good of the community that will continue to offer quality education and quality careers for Gozitans,” the Prime Minister said.

He explained that this investment, which exceeds €2 million, is equipped with “state-of-the-art equipment and eleven dental chairs, from which the university students are offering an extensive range of services to everyone, from school children to the elderly.

With this educational experience, guided by the academics of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Malta, students attend this clinic during their academic year and offer these clinical services to the public from Monday to Friday.

The Prime Minister was accompanied on the visit by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima.

Also present for the visit was University Rector Prof. Alfred J. Vella and the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Nikolai J. Attard and the Bishop of Gozo Anton Teuma.
