A 63-year old man from Zebbug, Gozo, was critically injured after he was hit by a vehicle in Republic Street, Victoria.

Police said that the accident happened at around 7.30am on Wednesday morning, when the pedestrian was hit by a Citroen Berlingo being driven by a 31-year-old man from Victoria.

The man was given first assistance by a medical team at the scene before being taken to the Gozo General Hospital.

Due to the serious injuries sustained the man was transferred to Mater Dei hospital by helicopter for further treatment.

A Magisterial Inquiry was appointed into the case.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
