The long awaited new Victoria Health Centre has been inaugurated today by Health Minister Chris Fearne and Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri.
The €1.5 million health centre will be open for the public from tomorrow – Tuesday.
When it was first announced by the Ministry for Health and Ministry for Gozo back in June 2018, the date given for the opening was the first half of 2019…
It was explained that this centre is designed with “a focus on the patient and equipped with the best quality infrastructure and technology.”
Apart from the treatment room and the walk-in clinic, this modern Health Centre, spread over two floors, will be strengthening the policy of primary health care in the community, even in Gozo, as from the coming days a number of services to patients that until now were only offered by the Gozo General Hospital.
Main among them, the service of a family doctor, blood sampling, vaccinations, foot care, electrocardiograms (ECG), the ACC-POC clinic (of warfarin ), a diabetes clinic, wound care, a specialist clinic for people with Down’s Syndrome and a health and wellness clinic (GU clinic).
Health Minister Chris Fearne explained that through the digital investment, it is possible for every resident in Malta and Gozo to make use of any Health Centre or Clinic in the Primary Health Care Community, and this since the patient information is digitised and therefore accessible from each clinic.
Minister Fearne thanked the workers of the Medical Services Foundation (FMS) for the infrastructural work and the Primary Health Care workers who will start operating from this centre from tomorrow.
Minister Camilleri mentioned that a few months ago a Community Clinic was also opened in Gharb which offers doctor’s appointments, screening, paediatrics, speech and language pathology as well as a physiotherapy clinic.
He added that in a few more weeks another new Community Clinic in Qala square will be opening where, among others, it will be offering Eye Screening services.
This is apart from the Dentistry Clinic opened last month in Ghajnsielem with a specific focus on the health of the mouth and teeth.

Don’t know how it was designed with the focus on the patient when the structure was already in place before it was decided to make into a new health centre, so 5 years to turn it into a Health Centre from an existing shell!
Compliments to former Gozo Minister Dr Justyne Caruana who initiated this project several years ago.
Very good service, doctors and receptionist very good, thanks for your help and time.
Not enough chairs for at Reception. People have to stand outside, and even elderly persons have to stand because not often others offer them a seat. 🙁
