Gozo sees 35.5% fall in building permits for new dwellings For the third quarter in succession, Gozo registered a fall in the number of building permits for new dwellings.

There was a 35.5% decrease in building permits for new dwellings in during the third quarter of this year, with 287 dwellings registered, compared to the same period last year when the number was 445, the National Statistics Office said today.

Nadur had the highest number of approved new dwellings on Gozo, with 49.

Other Gozo localities were Xewkija with 46 approved, Ghajnsielem 45, Qala 35, Victoria 28, Xaghra 24, Munxar 14, Sannat 14, Gharb 13, San Lawrenz 6, followed by Ghasri and Kercem with 1 each. There was nothing for Fontana.

On a national basis, during the second quarter of 2023, 384 building permits for a total of 1,827 new dwellings were approved.

When compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the number of approved new dwellings decreased by 12.7%.

The NSO noted that apartments made up 73.2% of the total number of approved new dwellings.

The highest number of approved new dwellings (222) was registered once again in San Pawl Il-Bahar.
