Renovation works are underway in a Xewkija building that will turn it into a one-stop-shop for volunteering in Gozo, the Government has said.
Improvement works at the Volunteer Center in Xewkija are well under way which will ensure that Gozitan voluntary organisations are served with up-to-date facilities and resources.
Apart from serving as an office for the Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector, this centre welcomes the European Services in Malta (SEM) and is also used by organisations registered as VOs to meet and organise their activities.
The centre should be ready in the coming months, the Government said. Apart from this, as the works are completed, it will also serve as a one-stop-shop of help and support to Gozitan volunteers and voluntary associations.
This will complement the three centres that already work in this way in Malta, located in Valletta, Rabat and Birkirkara.
Julia Farrugia, Minister for Inclusion, Volunteering and Consumer Rights. accompanied by Clint Camilleri, Minister for Gozo, visited the centre to view the ongoing work.
“The development and modernisation that is being done in this center reflects not only the fulfilment of another electoral promise concerning the volunteering sector but also reflects how much volunteering work is appreciated.” said Minister Farrugia Portelli.
She added that through the one-stop-shop system, the Gozitan voluntary associations, particularly the small and medium ones that depend on aid for their operation, will find it all under one roof.
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri said, this Volunteer Centre in Xewkija, will be the first one-stop-shop for voluntary associations in Gozo.
He explained that the renovation work is being carried out by the Operations Division in the Ministry for Gozo in collaboration with the Ministry for Inclusion, Volunteering and Consumer Rights in order to continue to facilitate the work of voluntary organisations in Gozo and strengthen the field of volunteering on the island.
In a comment during the visit, Chief Executive of the Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector, Mr. Mauro Pace Parascandalo, said that it is nice to see collaboration between Ministries and different entities that all work towards one goal.
