Students and employees to benefit from myPotential schemeFollowing the success of the myPotential Scheme, the Minister of Finance, the Economy and Finance, Tonio Fenech announced that this programme is now also being extended to other sectors required by the economy including financial services. “Our objective is to supply the labour market with skilled workers in the areas where our economy is seeking and achieving growth, particularly in view of our longer-term objectives related to Vision 2015.”

“Achieving excellence requires highly specialised personnel and the extension of the myPotential Scheme aims to encourage our students to further invest in their talents while ensuring a future which can lead them to a highly-rewarding job,” explained Minister Fenech.

This scheme will be administered by Malta Enterprise, which has been given the responsibility to approve support, through tax credits to courses to any sector required by local industry when such courses are not provided for by the State. Moreover, Government decided to extend the course eligibility to those exceeding three years.

Minister Fenech explained that the previous Scheme which applied to ICT and Sciences meant an investment of over €8 million over the last three years, to the benefit of more than 2000 companies and individuals over the last three years. Now, the new Scheme will be entirely focused on individuals.

This announcement was made during a speech on the occasion of the inauguration of the eighth branch in Malta by Banif Bank. Tonio Fenech commented that “Although the bank already operates over 500 branches in 15 countries, its rapid integration into the Maltese financial landscape since obtaining its license from the Malta Financial Services Authority less than two years ago is a sign of the mutual confidence that has developed between the bank and the Maltese public.”

The Maltese banking sector today is composed of 37 credit and financial institutions hailing from 14 different countries. These operate across a whole range of areas including corporate banking and project finance, custody, financial leasing and trade financing, private wealth management and retail banking.
