A Conservator-Restorer warrant or Heritage Skills Certificate have been presented to four conservation professionals who work in the field of restoration of cultural heritage.

Two professionals were awarded the Conservator-Restorer Warrant while a further two were awarded a Heritage skills Certificate.

The presentations were made during an official ceremony by Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici.

The Conservator-Restorers warrant was issued for the fifth time by the Restoration Warrant Board, which aims to regulate the works related to the profession of conservators and restorers as stipulated by the Act On cultural heritage. A total of 57 conservatives-restorers have been awarded the warrant to date.

For the first time a Heritage Skills Certificate was also given to two candidates who were found to be sufficiently qualified to practice in the field. The Government said that this is an important step forward in further fostering the field of conservation and restoration.

Minister Bonnici explained that thanks to this warrant and a certificate given by the Restoration Warrant Board, the abilities of these professionals are being recognised.

He stressed that since the work of conserving and restoring cultural value objects needs to be done with the best means, material and ethics, the Cultural Heritage Act requires that to perform this type of work individuals need to hold a warrant issued in accordance with the provisions of the Cultural Heritage Act.

Minister Bonnici concluded by thanking all those who participated over the years, particularly the Chairperson of the Board Dr Joseph Buttigieg and the members of the board who were instrumental in this important work.
