8 automated external defibrillator (AED) stations across Gozo have been installed through the work of the Ministry for Gozo.

Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, announced that in addition, the upgrading of the 8 existing, servicing of the stations as well as a number of certified training courses in First Aid and in the use of AEDs is being done.

“This was possible after the Ministry signed an agreement with the voluntary association Malta Rescue Corps to carry out this joint project and thus around Gozo there will be a substantial number of AED stations in places that are frequented by many people, both Gozitans as well as those visiting the island,” stated Minister Camilleri.

He went on to say that the it has also been agreed that as part of the maintenance, strong and waterproof metal cabinets will be purchased to replace the plastic boxes of the AEDs that were installed a few years ago.

The Secretary-General of the Malta Rescue Corps Etienne Micallef spoke about the importance of this device and explained how it should be used.

Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that the aim of this project is both to increase the number of AEDs around the island as well as to further increase awareness of the importance of this device which can save people’s lives.

The Malta Rescue Corps will be handling the maintenance of these AEDs with the financial assistance of the Ministry for Gozo and Planning.

Marsalforn Police Station

Xewkija’s public garden

AEDs that were installed in previous years are located at:

Dwejra Bay, San Lawrenz – which has been used and serviced several times over the years

San Lawrenz Square

St. George’s Basilica, Victoria – which has been used and serviced.

St. Joseph’s Square, Qala

Nadur Local Council
