The number of claims with respect to non-fatal accidents decreased by 102, or 8.3% in the final half of 2023 when compared to July-December 2022, the National Statistics Office said today.

There were four fatal accident reported during the final six months of 2023. During the same period in 2022 there were seven.

The administrative records show that 1,127 persons were involved in a non-fatal accident at work during this same period.

The NSO noted that one third of those involved in an accident at work were absent from work for three days or less, while those absent from work for 21 days or more amounted to 18.0%.

The NSO noted that the largest share of accidents at work involved persons working in elementary occupations. This was followed by craft and related trades workers. 27.3% of the accidents involved persons in the 35-44 age bracket.

The NSO also said that the majority of those involved in a non-fatal accident at work were Maltese (73.3%).
