Cardiologist Robert Xuereb has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for Medical Services, the Government said in a statement on Wednesday.

Dr. Xuereb is a pioneer in cardiology in Malta. In the past he served as President of the Maltese Society of Cardiology and in the nineties he was key in establishing the first interventional cardiology services in Malta.

The Government said that “thanks to his work in this sector, our country is now recognised as a center of excellence in the field of heart care.” In 2023 he was awarded the Gieh ir-Repubblika by the President George Vella.

Robert Xuereb replaces Carmen Ciantar.
