Passengers heading for the Gozo Channel ferry at Mgarr on Sunday were met with an extremely long queue of vehicles waiting to board the ferry which was tailing back beyond Xewkija, with some reporting that they had been waiting over 4 hours just to reach the boarding area.
The queue still stretched a long way back even after 10pm on Sunday evening and the situation had been like that since early afternoon.
Opposition Spokesperson for Gozo Alex Borg, thanked the Gozo Channel workers, who he said had been working tirelessly on Sunday “to make up for what the Government promised but did not deliver, a service of the fourth ship that is worth relying on.”
Borg insisted that “we deserve better. It’s time to wake up”
Writing on social media, Borg said, “the students, and workers who stay in Malta during the week, families who came to visit their relatives and Maltese who came for the weekend are rightly angry from the many messages I am receiving.”
He stated that “all this is the result of incompetence and empty words.”
The MP stressed that, “it would have been better instead of the money going to a building whose purpose no one has yet understood, it was invested in the service of a fourth ship.”
Currently the Gozo Channel service is running with three ships as the MV Nikolaos is out of service in dry-dock for maintenance.
