The 38th edition of Fiera Festa ta’ l-Ghadira is being held next month in the picturesque area of ‘Ghadira Ta’ Sarraflu’ – Kercem in Gozo.
This popular event, organised by Kumitat Festa Kercem, is always held one week after Easter Sunday, and has become an annual appointment with families to enjoy the various attractions on offer in the surrounds of the beautiful Gozitan countryside.
Various attractions will be available for all the family, including clay shooting competition, pony rides, birds, as well as games for all ages with a chance to win prizes. There will also be a large play area for children.
Different stalls offering food and drinks will be available, there will also be a plant sale.
“Parking will not be a problem for those attending since there will be a huge free area available,” the organisers said.
`Ghadira Ta’ Sarraflu’ is also well known for countryside walks with excellent views of the Xlendi and Dwejra areas.
Everybody is invited to attend the fair, on Sunday, the 7th of April, which starts from 12:00pm onwards.
I always try to attend because the atmosphere is nostalgic for me. I would like to comment on the name which I saw written for the very first time as ‘sarraflu’. . 3rd May 2020 the Times of Malta headed an article: Ghadira ta’ San Raflu. From a Wikepidia article of October 2011 I share this paragraph: The area has always been a centre for agricultural activity, which has grown in the 20th century. The area is called San Raflu or Sarraflu most probably after the archangel Raphael, although the reason for this is unknown. The area centers around a man made hole which gathers water and is home to several different marine organisms. Since 1981, a spring festival, called the Fiera tal-Ghadira (Ghadira Festival) is held every year on the first Sunday after Easter, and in which several agricultural produce and farm animals are sold to the public. I felt to share this with you, maybe I entice you to come, at least you will see the beauty of nature and of the Ghadira.
