The “environmental crimes are continuing with full impunity in Gozo,” stated the Malta Ranger Unit. All this, “while the Gozo Minister still ignores our bi-daily reminders for the promised rescheduling of the meeting where MRU intended to bring up urgent matters.”

The MRU said that these photos were taken in the ‘protected’ Natura 2000 of Wied il-Mielah and I-Inawi tal-Madwar (MT0000037) on Tuesday and shows the “constant dumping of construction waste.”

The Gozo Rangers from the MRU argued that, “the sign that indicates that offenders will be fined is there just for the sake of it. Because Gozo has no Environmental Protection Unit Police.”

The Rangers said, “we have highlighted this to Minister Miriam Dalli as well as Minister Clint Camilleri for almost two years now. Yet no statement from their Ministries on this urgent matter, needing to be seen to – Just silence.”

“In the meantime, the Gozitan environment degrades,” they added.

“Our work continues,” the MRU said. “If you have any information to give you can do so to ERA anonymously, and refer to report number CRM01501/24.”

The Malta Ranger Unit stated that it will take “detailed statistics on the environmental crimes in Gozo (and Malta) and will compile a full report which will be published with full transparency later this year. Impunity will not reign. No land is protected without Environmental Protection Unit Police.”

“Our Rangers deal with over 300 cases of environmental illegalities – Monthly,” the MRU said.
