The Malta Rangers Unit said that an appointment had been arranged for earlier this week to meet with Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri at the Ministry. “Unfortunately, just over an hour before the agreed meeting time the Minister’s Private Secretary sent an email cancelling the meeting with the Minister.”
The Rangers explained that they had wanted to discuss “environmental illegalities and the challenges faced in Gozo when monitoring of such.”
The Rangers said other topics for discussion included the introduction of the MRU to the Minister “so that he better understands what our Unit does as a Maltese NGO.”
“For the MRU to get a better overview how tackling of environmental illegalities is done in Gozo, such as illegal fires, construction without permits, burning of waste etc.
“To address how the absence of Environmental Protection Unit Police in Gozo affects the Gozitan nature and its population, the MRU said.
It noted that the three points will now be discussed whenever the new appointment is set.
The Malta Rangers Unit concluded by saying that “the environment in Gozo is at the moment taking a big hit, hence we have no doubt that the Minister would want to schedule this appointment sooner rather than later.”
