On Friday morning, Pope Francis welcomed the Bishops of Malta and Gozo who are currently in Rome for the ‘ad limina Apostolorum’ visit, in order to give an account of the situation of the Church in Malta and Gozo.

During the audience, the Pope and the Bishops spoke about the Archdiocese of Malta and the Diocese of Gozo.

In preparation for the Jubilee of Hope that will take place next year, Pope Francis encouraged the Maltese and Gozitan people to be an instrument of mercy and love. In the words of Archbishop Charles Scicluna, this message from the Pope “confirmed us in our faith and our mission.”

The audience with Pope Francis brought to an end the Bishops’ visit to the Vatican where during these five days they met with various officials of the Holy See who take care of different aspects of the life of the Church.

This was the first ‘ad limina’ visit for Archbishop Charles Scicluna, Bishop Anton Teuma and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi. The last time the Bishops of Malta and Gozo went to the Vatican for this visit was in May 2012.
