The Food Agency, within the Ministry for Agriculture, will be providing a free transport service to Gozitan farmers, delivering the agricultural products from Gozo to Malta. This service will be provided twice a week, to meet the demand, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo said.
It was explained that the agricultural products will be transported directly to the Pitkalija in Malta where they will be registered and distributed to the sales agents according to the direction of the farmers. Labels will also be printed on the outside of each product to ensure traceability.
The Minister said that this service is aimed at reducing costs for Gozitan farmers, especially those related to transport such as fuel and the cost of the ship. He stressed that ”this initiative will improve efficiency and increase the accessibility of Gozitan agricultural products in the Maltese market.”
He concluded by saying that, ”through this new service, the Government is recognising the work of the farmer.”

I am glad to hear that this incentive is being re-introduced to Gozitan Farmers. Something which I had previously introduced during my former time as Gozo Channel Chairman.
Gozitan Farmers are at a disadvantage to their Maltese Counterparts due to the travel & crossing costs incurred.
So good move forward for Gozitan Farmers starting on a level foothold with the main Islanders.
