The Malta Ranger Unit said that some 67 days ago it reported a site in Zebbug, Gozo, ”where regular dumping of waste for illegal incineration is taking place.”
”Up until Friday, no update has been given,” the MRU said.
The Rangers stated that ”this week a large amount of soil/sand has been deposited on site to seemingly make it easier to dump waste. There is also a large pile of clothes dumped ready to burn.”
The Malta Ranger Unit urged the Environment and Resources Authority ”to act immediately on our report which has been pending for over two months now – CRM01444/24 from the 8th April 2024.”
‘The Rangers also said that it ”reminded the Government / Miriam Dalli and Clint Camilleri ( Ghawdex Eco-Gozo A Better Gozo ) that Gozo, STILL, has no Environmental Protection Unit Police, giving the environmental criminals 100% impunity.”
The MRU concluded by saying that ”Gozo’s Natura 2000 sites are in a sad state, with seemingly zero protection. The next couple of months, the MRU will compile an extensive map highlighting what the designation without protection leads to in reality.”
