The number of registered unemployed continues to rise, with latest data showing that in May the figure was 1,223, an increase of 307 persons over May 2023, It was also up by 21 on the number for April.

The National Statistics Office figures reveal that males accounted for 69.4% or 849 of total registrants while females accounted for the remaining 30.6% or 374 registrants.

Increases in the registered unemployment levels were recorded in all age groups.

The NSO noted that the number of persons with a disability registering for work increased by 25 persons over the same period in 2023, reaching 249 persons. Males accounted for 80.3% of total registrants with a disability.

Clerical support jobs were the most common occupations sought by the registered unemployed.
