Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, writing on Facebook, said that he had been informed that ”some workers – mooring men – on their own initiative and without being covered by industrial action, did not report to work today or refused to do their work, to the detriment of Gozo Channel and its customers.”
He added that ”Gozo Channel will be taking disciplinary steps against these workers.”
The Minister concluded by thanking other workers who, although it is not their duty to tie up and moor the ships, have entered into this assignment in order to ratify the situation so that the service will return to normal.
Long queues have built up on both sides of the channel after the ships were brought to a standstill through the unofficial action taken by the workers.
