Data from the National Statistics Office today show that in during the second quarter, a total of 11,320 trips were carried out between Malta and Gozo, carrying a total of 1,790,208 passengers.

During the same period sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered increases in passengers, vehicles and trips when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2023, the NSO said.

The NSO noted that May was the busiest month recording a total of 3,970 trips or 35.1% of total trips for the quarter.

A total of 1,537,248 passengers travelled between Mgarr and Cirkewwa during the second quarter, this was an decrease of 0.3% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2023.

The highest number of passengers was recorded in May – 524,731 or 34.1% of the total for the quarter. When compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, the number of vehicles increased by 1.9%, totalling 527,931.

There were 8,963 trips in the second quarter, an increase of 0.7% over the same period in 2023. May registered the highest number of trips – 3,011 or 33.6% of total trips for the quarter.

During January-June passenger traffic originating from Cirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays.

The NSO said that from the Mgarr terminal, passenger traffic was busiest on Sundays and Saturdays, while vehicle traffic was highest on Sundays and Mondays.

A total of 2,357 trips were carried out between Mgarr and Valletta during the second quarter, carrying a total of 252,960 passengers.

When compared to same quarter in 2023, the number of trips increased by 4.6% and the number passengers increased by 38.4%.

The NSO noted that May registered the highest number of trips – 959 or 40.7% of total trips for the quarter and the highest number of passengers – 103,279 or 40.8% for the quarter
