The Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna said that “more investment is needed for pedestrianisation and safe pavements.
“The public is in urgent need for accessible and safe pavements within their locality. This is an important element for the wellbeing of society,” the organisation said on Sunday.
” The Local Councils Association’s statement saying that money promised for pedestrianisation ‘never came’ is mostly sad,” added Zminijietna.
The organisation argued that “broken pavements, no planning for dropped kerbs, garbage bags illegally disposed of on pavements all day long and abusive behaviour by commercial entities are all making life difficult for many people.”
It added that, “the pedestrianisation of a street can create attractive public spaces which encourage walking, more use of public transport and foster a sense of community.”
On a positive note, Zminijietna highlighted the various projects implemented across Malta in this regard. “Such as the investment to rearrange the Msida-Pietà promenade.”
